if you could see the water
a collection of reimagined ghost stories & folk lore that details four generations of my family’s oral history and immigration journey from Vietnam to America.
After being sponsored by LA Times in March 2019 to visit Vietnam for family research, I’ve continued compiling my family’s oral history into a creative nonfiction memoir. Some of the pieces have been published in LA Times, The College Independent, and Visions Magazine. In September 2020, I submitted this project idea to Pen America’s PEN/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History and was moved to the second round.
This is an ongoing personal project.
